food for thought

Well music is more than that. Some of historys greatest minds have expressed themselves sonically. Hildegard of Bingen and J.S. Bach, Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner, Bartk and Thelonious Monk: these people didnt just serve up pleasing sounds for our amusement, they thought in music and thought deeply. When we listen to their work, we are plugging in to a form of philosophical discourse. Indeed, plugging in is arguably too passive a phrase, because if we are really listening to music we are participating in it. The music is being made in our imaginations.

- Andrew Ford

It is our responsibility, as human beings, to challenge ourselves to think and to think deeply. We all had a common starting point once, yet our journeys are solely our own to bear. Where it takes us, is further. Further away from me, from you, from each other. And as we pause for rest, look back at the way we came, hopefully I will remember fondly the landscape we used to share.
